When you own a house cleaning business you need to decide if you're going to use your own vacuum or use your customer's vacuum cleaner. Normally you should provide your own equipment when providing a service, but some of your clients might ask you to use theirs. You'll need to weigh the pro's and con's of buying your own vacuums versus using your customer's vacuum cleaner.
Here are some of the things you should consider:

* Training will be much easier if you provide your own vacuum cleaners because your employees will only have to learn how to use one vacuum versus all the different brands of vacuums that your customers will have.
* You will be more likely to buy a higher quality vacuum cleaner than will your customer so it should stand up to wear and tear better than the customer's vacuum. Plus a higher quality vacuum cleaner will perform better so productivity will be increased.
* What happens if your customer's vacuum breaks down while on the job? Labor costs will be increased due to troubleshooting the problem. And if the vacuum can't be fixed the job may not get done.
* What happens if your customer runs out of bags, belts or other accessories/supplies?
* On the flipside, you may want to use a customer's vacuum cleaner for sanitary reasons. If you use your own vacuum you could be transporting pet hair, bacteria and other soils from one home to the next.

As a cleaning business owner, give some thought as to what your policy will be on using your customers' vacuum cleaners.
