Working women prefer to outsource some mommy tasks especially if they can afford it. Not only mommy tasks, but other personal grooming services like coloring one's hair or doing one's nails, are considered a practical way to free up a working mom's busy schedule. Outsourcing afforded a lot of parents more quality time spent with the family. And as for their careers, outsourcing allowed them to focus in bringing more success in their fields of expertise.

With the bleak economy, some if not the majority, are forced to cut down on outsourcing. For example, hair coloring done at the salon would cost Php2,000 minimum. In the U.S., it's in the $200 range. If you do your own hair color at home, the DIY kit would save you a lot of money.

Unless you're filthy rich, we might see a downward trend in the outsourcing of parents' tasks such as employing nannies and tutors. There are alternatives if you're lucky i.e. assistance from extended families. Or you may limit the nanny's hours and stretch yourself a bit more to take care of the kids.

Not all employers gave a salary increase this year citing the economic crisis. Business owners were hit hard with lower sales and profit. Rather than lay off employees, the business owners either retained current salaries or cut down on benefits. This, in my opinion, is better than losing one's job.

The key thing is to save more during the hard times. We can still outsource tasks but it's more practical to cut down on it if possible.
