You ever seen a jigsaw puzzle when it hasn't been put together? It's about 2000 pieces that you have to match up when you look at the picture on the cover of the box. Let's say that I gave you that puzzle but I took the picture away from you... if you had no idea what the end product looked like, do you think you'd even bother TRYING to put those 2000 pieces together? No matter how much you wanted to, you just simply can't because you don't know what the end result looks like.

Now on the other hand, let's say that I gave you the picture AND I gave you all the pieces. But in this case, you just don't WANT to put the puzzle together... to you, there's no incentive in doing it. Do you think you'd sit down and try to match 2000 different pieces up? Don't think so...

That jigsaw puzzle and your business are pretty similar. The puzzle pieces are all of the tools and pieces of knowledge that you need for your business to succeed. The picture of the completed puzzle is the vision that you should have for what you want your business to look like. And of course, the desire to actually get up and do the puzzle is the same desire that you need to have for your business success. They ALL need to be there in order for it to work.

So what comes first? The desire. WHY do you want to succeed in business? To make more money? You know... that's the most common reason for MANY people. More money. Well, that reason isn't enough to keep you going past week 1 of your business. What would more money do for you? Go deeper into it... what is the why behind the why?

Could you pay the bills easier without having to cut from the other leisures of your life?
Could you finally pay off your debts?
Will it allow you to have more time with your family?
Will it allow you to finally take that vacation that you and your spouse have been talking about?

What comes after the desire is the vision. Again, many people respond like, "I want a successful and profitable business." Okay... what does that mean?! If your business was successful, how much income would it bring to you at the end of the year... CASH, in your pocket? How many employees or downline members would you have? What would your net worth look like?

And as a result of a successful business, what would your personal life look like? What kind of house do you want to live in? How many square feet? How many bedrooms?
What kind of car do you want to drive? What color? How many of them do you want?
How many vacations do you want to take per year? Where to?
These are all part of the overall VISION that you need to have for your life and your business.

And finally, comes the plan. Now, my favorite method for setting up a plan to achieve ANYTHING in my business is what is called the Merlin Method. This is where you take the end result that you want - let's say $100,000 income this year - and you work backwards.

How much product do you need to sell to get to that goal?
Whose help do you need to distribute that product? What tools do you need for the distribution?
Which product could you sell that it would get you to your goal easier and faster?
How would you need to market the product and on what scale?
What tools and skills do you ALREADY HAVE that you can use immediately to move you towards your goal?

This is just a brief overview of goal setting and business planning. I will tell you this right now... if you don't have a compelling enough REASON for wanting to succeed in your business, you will never get up and get out to get the job done. And if you have your reason but you don't have the VISION or the PLAN to get the job done, then you will be lost and very inefficient in your efforts.

They ALL need to be there in order for it to work.
